About the Department:
The department of Animal Resources was first established in 1964 when the
college of Agriculture and Forestry was built. In 1968 a Veterinary Medicine
division was established within the department and the name was changed to
Department of Animal Production and Veterinary Medicine. There were two main
branches in the department; they were Veterinary Medicine Branch and Animal
Breeding and Husbandry Branch. In 1970 the branch of Vet. Mid. was transferred
to the University of Baghdad then the name of the department was “Department of
Animal Breeding and Husbandry “ with four major branches they were:
1. Branch of Dairy
Cattle
2. Branch of Sheep
3. Branch of
Poultry
4. Branch of
Nutrition and Meat Science
The department was
grown rapidly in all fields. The staff members now consists of 21 Ph.D. and
17M.Sc. The staff members accomplished many research projects in different areas
related to Animal science and has many contributions in all fields of Animal
production.
