The department of botanical production had been established in 1969 in which was field crops one of its branches . In 1973 the department of field crops established , which deal with field crops research and teaching for most field crops production as well as breeding and gentic. It awarded B.Sc. degree in 1975. The postgraduate studies (M.Sc.) started in1973-1974 , then 1982-1983 two students were registered for The (Ph.D.). the department gave 64 degree in M.Sc. and 16 in (Ph.D.). the department was grown rapidly in two fields production and breeding. The staff member now consist of 17 Ph.D. and 8 M.Sc.
