About the Department:
The department of forestry was founded at the same time of the foundation of the
college of Agriculture and Forestry at Mosul University in the year 1964,
replacing the institute of Forestry, which was established at Abu-Graib in
Baghdad in 1959. It was one of three main departments included in the college.
The department was the only one established at that time in Iraq and
in the Arab Nation. The main goals of the department are to provide specialized
undergraduates (B.Sc.) and graduate students (M. Sc. and Ph. D) in different
areas of Forestry to help supporting any work deals with forestry in Iraq and
other nations. Many students (graduates and under-graduates) from Arab countries
have been graduated from this dept. like students from Libia, Syria, Sudi
Arabia, Jordan, Sudan, Tunisia, Kuwait, Egypt, Palestine, Algeria and Moritania.
For many years passed, the dept. involved through the works of the staff members
in supporting and doing many projects for different Ministries, especially those
projects which dealt with the enhancing of forestry in different parts of the
country.
The department used to have specialized laboratories in different areas related
to forestry such as labs. For; Silviculture, Dendrology, Wood Science and
Technology, Menstruation and a Museum of wild life. In addition to a nursery and
an experimental station located at kaflasen in Duhook province.
Now we are in the process of renovation of the dept. after a complete
damage happened during and after the war in 2003.
