About the Department:

          

    The Department started as a unit , within the Department of Plant Production in 1967, including Entomology and Plant Pathology before it was developed to a Branch of Plant Protection in 1970 and the establishment of the Department of Plant Protection in 1973 . The higher studies leading for the M.Sc. degrees started in the academic year 1976- 1977, and that leading for the Ph.D degrees in 1993 .The importance of this department is evident as we consider its scientific activities, through which it shares in agricultural improvement, which include the following:

 

-Provision of technical personnel in the fields of Plant Pathology and Entomology who participate in improving agricultural production.

- The extension of applied scientific research programs to solve agricultural problems.

-Training programs for agricultural extension workers, farmers and agricultural secondary school teachers in the fields of plant protection.

-Survey and identification of agricultural pests and plant diseases in Nineveh Province.

-The participation in planning agricultural projects.

-The cooperation with a number of agricultural establishments in the extension of several national agricultural projects, including the National Grain Project and   The Cotton Improvement Project.
