About the Department:

    Department of Archaeology was founded in 1994.The Department has two branches: Ancient Archaeology and Islamic Archaeology, the student is awarded B.A in Archaeology. Post Graduate studies started in the department in 1998.The Department aims at preparing cadres that are to be deployed in the Universities and establishments. It also embarks on excavating the archaeological sites. The prescribed curriculum of the higher studies contains:

Excavation Methods, antiquarian, ancient languages (Sumerian and Akkadian Languages), cuneiform inscription, prehistoric ages, history and civilization of ancient East, English (at all stages), not to mention Architecture, Arts, calligraphy, numismatics and reconstruction works of archeological sites and buildings.

Activities :

The Current year :

-         The professors in the Department of Archaeology has participated in the Annual Scientific Conference in the College of Arts theUniversity of Mosu.

-         The Department has held a show of heritage and Scientific Works on the anniversary of University of Mosul.

-         The professors has panticipated in the Scientific Conference held by Mosul Centre of Studies at the University of Mosul.

-         Writing and rendering the Scientific references in Archaeology and ancient languages Similarly,the Department embark on establishing Mosul Archaeologic al Encyclopedia.

-         Under the supervision of the professors, the students published four issues of scientific Archaeological board.

-         The students have visited the museum of popular Heritage at the University of Mosul. They also visited reconstruction and maintenance Lab.

-         The professors have submitted the papers in accordance with the scientific plan in the Department.

-         Discussions have been held for the prepared papers.

The next year :

1.    Participation in the scientific conferences that are due to be held.

2.    Holding a show of popular Heritage and scientific works.

3.    Writing and translating scientific books.

4.    Exactions.

5.    Receiving the professors from other Universities who will visit our University.

6.    The students in the Department will issue the Archaeological scientific board.

7.    The students will visit the Archaeological sites.

8.    The professors will prepare the scientific papers in accordance with the scientific plan in the  Department.

9.    Discussion will be held for the theses and studies prepared.
