OF The department of Medicine was established in 1963. The initial staff members of the department were from foreigners and visitors from Baghdad medical college. In 1966, one of the Iraqian doctors returned back from UK and joined the department as the first Iraqi member working in such department. Since that time the number of teaching staff started to increase gradually till it reached more than 33 members at time being. In addition to under-graduate academic duties (3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th years), the department involved actively in the following additional duties: 1. Establishment of sub-specialties medical units at Ibn Seena Teaching Hospital (previously called General Hospital) including establishment of new medical units like CCU, Echocardiography, Treadmill exercise test units, Cardiac Catheterization unit. Lung function laboratory, and Neurology units as well as establishment of ECG and EEG stations and foundation of renal dialysis unit 2. Arrangement of out-patient clinic and emergency department in cooperation with hospital manager. 3. Arrangement of Medical activities in the hospital that running through the week in corperation with department of medicine at Ibn Seena Teaching Hospital. Supervision and teaching of post-graduate students. It also acts as a supervisor of clinical activities of Ibn Sena teaching Hospital.
IN ACADEMIC YEAR (2004-2005)
1. Daily clinical activities at Ibn Sena Teaching Hospital that will be mentioned elsewhere. 2. Supervision of seminars presented by 6th year student. 3. Arrangement of 5 seminars by teaching staff as a part of CME activities. 4. Involving actively in combined clinical meetings through the academic year. 5. Supervision of more than 20 post-graduate theses, and involvement of the staff in discussing of many such theses. 6. Arrangement of medical tutorials by staff for 6th year students every Thursday at Ibn Sena Teaching hospital. 7. Involvement of teaching staff in training courses arranged by computer and internet units in our college. 8. Involvement of some of staff in courses of “Methods of Teaching” that was arranged by University of Mosul
