The foundation of the department was on 1988, and before that time the pediatrics was one section of the department of medicine. The pediatrics department has two objectives: 1-Academic object: It is responsible for teaching undergraduate students in fifth and sixth class including giving lectures, tutorials, and clinical teaching in hospitals, also supervising and training postgraduate students in Iraqi and Arab Board of Pediatrics. 2-Providing medical services to the children in the community by the staff members of the department in pediatrics hospitals in Mosul city.
The department council consist of a head master with twelve members
