The department of surgery in Mosul medical college was established at 1962 when its members were three surgeons, since then the members were increased and now reaching more than 36 surgeons of different specialties. The department of Surgery is involved in teaching of the medical student in both Mosul & Nineveh medical colleges (3rd , 4th , 5th & 6th year) . In addition to Dental College students (3rd and 4th) years and they also involved in final examination of M.B.Ch.B in Erbil, Duhok & Tekrit medical colleges. The department of surgery members supervise & participate in the post gradate study in general surgery, urology, orthopedic, neurology, pediatrics surgery, ENT, ophthalmology and anesthesia. Beside that all the members of the department are responsible for the treatment of patients in Mosul teaching hospitals. As well as they participate in different medical committees and participate in evaluation and examination of the Iraqi board candidate of different specialties.
It consists of the head of the department with eight members representing subspecialties branches
The members of the department participate in specialized medical committees (general surgery, fractions, ophthalmology, ENT) and scientific consulting committees.
The Current year : - The International Iraqi Physicians Society Conference (Al-Shariqa April-2006). - The Arab Universities Quality Conference (Al-Shariqa April-2006). - Symposium of Surgical Emergency (March-2006). - G.I.T. Conference (Syria 2006).
